Social Networking
The term social networking earlier referred to a specific group of people who were tied by types of interdependency such as friendship, kinship, common interest, relationships, hobbies, beliefs etc. most common in a workplace, universities and high schools. But today it is an online platform or a site that aims to build social relationships among people from all over the world no matter how different or unique their interests and activities might be. Most people use social networking sites to make friends .These sites allow individuals to catch up with their old friends or friends from work, community, college, schools etc. Some of the most common social sites are Facebook, Orkut, LinkedIn, Twitter, MySpace, Hi5, NETLOG and digg.
Since internet users are millions of people looking to meet other people from different parts of the world the experiences in most cases are different. Therefore when they come together they share rich and varied interests and topics amongst each other. It could be about anything from movies, music, cooking, golfing and gardening and sports to something more private and personal such as pictures, videos, thoughts and comments.
There are a number of social sites available online. Using a site for socializing is simple as all one needs to do is open an account with them to gain access. Once you have an access search for your friends or make new ones, read their profile pages and contact them. If social networking sites properly used it has a number of benefits you not only get to make friends but learn about different culture and languages as a person sitting in Italy can make friends with someone in Las Vegas or anywhere else in the world.
Though one should be a little more careful as data theft and viruses are now very common where social networking sites are concerned. False accounts and individuals claiming to be someone who they are not are most prevalent. If you think about it, this is similar to real life where we also meet strangers so don’t fear social sites but just be cautious. While opting for a particular site to join find out about their user base, ergonomics and features.
